Do you know how to create a Google map? It is easy, and very useful

Maps are very useful tools in our lives (and for our business). Thanks to them we were able to locate the origin of diseases and carry out the first studies on epidemics; draw the layout of the submarine cables that connect the world; and, of course, ask the GPS to take us from one place to another. The power of designing maps with our points of interest is a technology available to all smartphone or computer. Can you imagine sightseeing with an electronic map made by you? Or share with friends the hostels you liked to go as a couple? This is possible thanks to Maps , from Google Maps.

How do I access Google Maps?

Whether we enter Google Maps through the browser of the computer or the mobile phone application, we can click on the options of the three horizontal lines≡ to display the side panel, in which we select Your sites and then MAPS .Alli will find the ones we have already created.

The recommended alternative, if we are in the browser, is to enter through the URL www.google.com/maps/d that will take us to our maps, we can only create maps and edit them ( see below) from the browser, which obviously looks much better on the computer; although it also opens on the mobile phone:

Some images that appear in this article have been edited, superimposing the mobile view to the desktop view so that the information is more accessible, as we did with the Google Classroom tutorial.

How to create a new map in google Maps?

Like almost all Google services, the red button with the sum symbol helps us to create new elements.Once we clicked on it, the current website will be replaced by something similar to the following, in which we can see a Map without name (by clicking on the text we can edit it); as well as some options that we will see one after another later.

It is important to note that the information on these maps is stored in the root folder of Google Drive, our server in the cloud.Although it will not penalize us the space quota, we must be careful not to delete these files unintentionally, for what is advisable to create a folder called Maps and drag them all there to avoid loss of information.

How can I add points to my new map?

We have called our new map Art Walk of Madrid in order to reflect for the exercise the 23 mandatory museum stops recommended by the City Council; starting with the Museo Nacional del Prado, so we look for it in the top search bar (the text completes itself only) and we select it).

Automatically the web zooms and moves us to the museum, from which we can see its file: name, address, web, contact phone, star rating, its position in Google Maps, and a button that reads + Add to map .This is the one that interests us.

When pressed, the Prado National Museum will appear with the classic blue lobe under a Nameless layer to the left of the viewfinder.on this name we have selected the title of Default payment entry included in subscriptions that we see below. Why?

Because we are going to classify the stops of the Paseo del Arte according to the cost they have using the different layers. As the National Museum of the Prado is included in the tourist tickets, we include it in that layer, which we have "painted" blue by clicking on the paint bucket.

To create the Free access layers (for museums and spaces that do not charge to enter) and Default payment entry not included in any subscription with which we will classify the museums, just click on Add layer .Once placed in a layer, the points can be deleted, but not taken from one to another.

This means that to add a lobe to the map within a layer we will have to be on it.In the case of the image below, on the Default payment entry layer (which we can distinguish because it is marked by a vertical blue line).

Once we have added the different points to the map, we can zoom and contemplate what we have achieved. Thanks to a global vision we can now establish different routes to see the different museums. With the option Draw line (the three points joined by several segments) we can draw these routes on the map, for example, to plan a day trip through Madrid through a Low Cost Route .

How to share or insert your own map?

We have already drawn our map (which we certainly do not have to design at once) and that we will always have accessible from the URL www.google.com/maps/dy from our mobile phone in Google Map> ≡> Your sites> Maps> Madrid Art Walk .

If we want someone to help us add points on a collaborative map, we can click on the Share button (in the browser) and enter the emails of the guests , to which we can give permission to view or edit, and we can even revoke access if we consider it appropriate, for example, because they have stopped collaborating or are deleting important data.

To place the map on a website, the first thing we have to do is click on Share , then Change... and finally on Activated: I publish on the Web to make the map public and accessible to all.If someone searches Google for "Paseo del Arte de Madrid" they are likely to run into our map.

Once made public, click on the three vertical points and Insert in my website .We will receive a code, which we can paste on any web page in HTML format. The final result is this interactive map with four layers and 23 stops in Madrid, to enjoy:

Internet of plants: a tomato knows as much about networks as you

The possibility of plant species communicating through complex networks, what some scientists have called the internet of plants , is an issue that has been discussed for a long time, at least 20 years. It was in 1997 when the scientist Suzanne Simard , from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (Canada), published a study in the journal Nature on how Forest plants use complex systems where species exchange nutrients, send warning signals and relate to the environment. Although there is no scientific consensus, several investigations seem to support this hypothesis. If confirmed, as we read in a fascinating report by the Sinc Agency, the forests would act as huge structures that are articulated under the soil through a network in which factors invisible to the human eye interact and can determine the future of the climate.Understanding how it works is the challenge that even science faces. internet of plants and the wisdom of forests The premise of Suzanne Simard ...

New setbacks for conspiranoicos: radiofrequencies do not affect health

New evidence published by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Radio Frequency and Health (CCARS) in its 2016 Radio Frequency and Health Report indicates that there are no adverse health effects derived of exposure to radio frequencies emitted by mobile phone antennas or radio and television broadcasting. No evidence has been found on the danger in wireless systems (Wi-Fi) or airport scanners. The new 2016 Radio Frequency and Health Report collects, updates and analyzes the scientific evidence on the subject for the period between January 2013 and June 2016. radio frequencies are not dangerous According to the conclusions of the report " the critical analysis of the evidence supports that there are no technical or sanitary reasons that justify the arbitrary and discretionary imposition of more demanding exposure limits than those recommended by WHO-ICNIRP and the Union European ", while the application of more restrictive limits" would imply increasing the n...

No kidding: selfitis exists and can be a problem

Sometimes one thinks that social networks were created to share photos of faces putting on little bones and images of dishes overflowing with appetizing foods or, better, of faces putting little bones in front of plates overflowing with appetizing foods in the same shot.is to see faces, faces, faces...all of them smiling, as if looking at the smartphone mirror was the height of happiness. And it does not seem that there are so many beautiful and happy people, or maybe yes, that you go Namely. What envy. Twitter shows the best of ourselves (it wasn't always going to be the worst)

In the era of social networks, accustomed to interact daily with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google or WhatsApp, we forget that these tools are phenomenal in the History of Humanity capable of mobilize hundreds of thousands of people in very different geographical locations in a matter of hours or even minutes. Already in the past, Twitter has asserted its more social dimension to mobilize people, companies or organizations and also, from a broader perspective, feelings of solidarity and support or also of rejection and repulses towards causes with an important mediatic impact.Recently, Twitter was once again the engine of solidarity after Dortmund's explosions as the Borussia Dortmund team bus passed on its way to the local stadium on the occasion of the Champions League match between the Borussia and the Monaco. These explosions did not have the devastating effect that they could have caused , so that everything remained in a major social commotion at international lev...

Most apps for children violate your privacy

Do you know if apps with which children enjoy their safety? A team of researchers from the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) of the University of Berkeley has studied compliance with the Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in these mobile applications for the little ones, through a scalable dynamic analysis that allows the automatic evaluation of privacy behaviors of Android apps. After studying 5,855 applications aimed at children, the research concludes that most of these apps, 57%, violate the privacy of their users mainly due to the use of data by third parties. apps for children and privacy Although many apps offer options in their configuration to respect the federal law that protects minors in the United States, by disabling tracking, their results suggest that a majority of applications either do not use these options or propagate them in wrong way. In addition, researchers believe that 19% of apps for children send user IDs to third parties to show ...

Are social networks damaging democracy?

The revelations according to which Russian agents inserted ads on Facebook that tried to influence the 2016 US elections raise a disturbing question: is Facebook bad for democracy? As an expert in the social and political repercussions of technology, I think that the problem is not exclusively from Facebook, but that it is much broader: Social networks are weakening some of the conditions that have historically enabled the existence of national states democratic. I understand that it is a dramatic statement, and I do not expect anyone to believe it immediately, but considering that almost half of all potential voters received false news promoted by the Russians in Facebook is an argument that must be debated.
