Fan of the emoji? All you have to know about the new landing

Fan of the emoji? All you have to know about the new landing

A smiling face, well, better two.And a red, yellow or blue heart. The thumb pointing up and a unicorn.Because to see who is the soulless man who doesn't like unicorns.I already have My message is ready to be sent.Ah, yes, there is some accompanying text, but it is not important. The fundamental thing is the emoji. Emoji for all .

The emoji return us crazy, crazy

Why do we like them so much? We send a WhatsApp and we can't resist finishing it off with one of those very expressive faces. Emoji bring humanity and feelings .As nice as we are, the tone of our texts can always be misunderstood. Now, yes we put a face with two hearts instead of eyes, who would doubt our loving mood?

A picture is worth a thousand words .Emoji are powerful, they aim at the target and they get right. They can explain what we can't do with words. They appeal to the most intimate and make us complicit in our Interlocutor who understands what we want to say better than if we use text. And, besides, they are so funny, so funny, there are so many to choose from...More and more, in fact. And what we have left.

The new emoji

They only have one catch: we want there to be more and more, infinite, to be able to use them right and left.Companies know it and do not hesitate to satisfy our desires. But not too easily. Choosing new emoji is a slow and complex process , in which many criteria and circumstances are valued. And creating a universal language has its difficulty.

We are in luck, because this June we had great news. June 21 Unicode launched 72 new emoji that, little by little, manufacturers will be incorporating into their operating systems.of patience to start using them.Nothing more than a little.

And among the newcomers, we find some news that Unicode has approved a bit echoing the popular clamor that I asked for.Among the icons of smilies and people, that emoji of the long nose is very striking> (use carefully because you're calling the staff a liar), the disgusted green face , the face palm (greatly needed) or the pregnant woman (it's a mystery because we didn't have it before.) And couples .Couples have come to complement lonely emoji: a dancer for the famous "flamenco" (which isn't flamenco, no matter how much of a flyer), a boyfriend, a mom Santa Claus, a prince...And many more: that hand making a selfie, the black heart , the glasses they provide, what a cuteness of cartoons.

Paella, the national emoji

Fan of the emoji? All you have to know about the new landing

It's ugly to have a favorite emoji, but we can't help it: We love Paella's new emoji .The story of how she has come true is curious and fun and has a happy ending. In 2014, The brand of rice La Fallera launched a bell to be included. At first it seemed crazy, somewhat unattainable, a funny request but that could hardly come to fruition...This is when the popular fury and the magic of virality enter game.

A petition was initiated on change.org.The hashtags #Paella Emoji and #Comboi Paella worked as a shot on social networks. The issue got to be trending topic worldwide, with 23 million users and 60 million impressions .Many popular characters signed up to give their support...In the end, it was achieved.Paella is already a universal meal, a reference of our cuisine that walks the world its unique deliciousness. And an important detail.Paella emoji reflects the authentic elaboration, with chicken, beans, garrofo...For a while, I circulate a design with peas.We would have only missed that, that we put the emoji and out of a fake paella. We don't pass.

And how do you choose the new emoji?

The Unicode Consortium is the one with the last word (and the first one, and all of them in the middle) to establish that new emojis go out to the market. Its mission is to ensure Unicode that, in case you don't know, is a character coding standard for universal use , specially designed to unify the computer language and for all of us to use the same "language".

We can all be members of the Consortium, if we can pay their fees.Among the companies that work on this non-profit platform are Apple, Google, Microsoft or Oracle Corporation .that new symbols are approved and can be used by everyone, we need the approval of the Unicode Consortium, which decides on the suitability or not of elements of all kinds, also the emoji.

If we have an emoji in mind and we would like it to come true , we have to go through some complicated processes.First, we must make the proposal to the Consortium and that happens by presenting a report on our Emoji that collects all kinds of data and characteristics that make it special and necessary, such as compatibility or level of use. From Unicode, it will be rejected if it does not meet certain premises, such as being very general, but also specific, that represents a brand or is not recognizable. And then...to wait.It may take more than a year until it is decided that a new emoji is inside.

What awaits us

The world of emoji is a constant Russian mountain in which Internet society actively participates, eager to be able to use those new images that give life and color to our words.

For example, did you know that Disney is already working on its own emoji? There are 400 drawings that represent the most famous characters of the company. To get them, a curious initiative. They can be downloaded through the game Disney Emoji Blitz, a mobile app in which games can be played with the different emojis.

The fever is unstoppable and we do not miss anything that we all end up having our own emoji, with our factions or our representative gestures. That is what we can see already with many socialites .Last December, Kim Kardashian jumped into the arena with Kimoji , a collection of emojis that represent her only. Those interested can download the app.

Internet of plants: a tomato knows as much about networks as you

The possibility of plant species communicating through complex networks, what some scientists have called the internet of plants , is an issue that has been discussed for a long time, at least 20 years. It was in 1997 when the scientist Suzanne Simard , from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver (Canada), published a study in the journal Nature on how Forest plants use complex systems where species exchange nutrients, send warning signals and relate to the environment. Although there is no scientific consensus, several investigations seem to support this hypothesis. If confirmed, as we read in a fascinating report by the Sinc Agency, the forests would act as huge structures that are articulated under the soil through a network in which factors invisible to the human eye interact and can determine the future of the climate.Understanding how it works is the challenge that even science faces. internet of plants and the wisdom of forests The premise of Suzanne Simard ...

No kidding: selfitis exists and can be a problem

Sometimes one thinks that social networks were created to share photos of faces putting on little bones and images of dishes overflowing with appetizing foods or, better, of faces putting little bones in front of plates overflowing with appetizing foods in the same shot.is to see faces, faces, faces...all of them smiling, as if looking at the smartphone mirror was the height of happiness. And it does not seem that there are so many beautiful and happy people, or maybe yes, that you go Namely. What envy. Twitter shows the best of ourselves (it wasn't always going to be the worst)

In the era of social networks, accustomed to interact daily with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google or WhatsApp, we forget that these tools are phenomenal in the History of Humanity capable of mobilize hundreds of thousands of people in very different geographical locations in a matter of hours or even minutes. Already in the past, Twitter has asserted its more social dimension to mobilize people, companies or organizations and also, from a broader perspective, feelings of solidarity and support or also of rejection and repulses towards causes with an important mediatic impact.Recently, Twitter was once again the engine of solidarity after Dortmund's explosions as the Borussia Dortmund team bus passed on its way to the local stadium on the occasion of the Champions League match between the Borussia and the Monaco. These explosions did not have the devastating effect that they could have caused , so that everything remained in a major social commotion at international lev...

Most apps for children violate your privacy

A team of researchers from the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) of the University of Berkeley has studied compliance with the Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in these mobile applications for the little ones, through a scalable dynamic analysis that allows the automatic evaluation of privacy behaviors of Android apps. Are social networks damaging democracy?

The revelations according to which Russian agents inserted ads on Facebook that tried to influence the 2016 US elections raise a disturbing question: is Facebook bad for democracy? As an expert in the social and political repercussions of technology, I think that the problem is not exclusively from Facebook, but that it is much broader: Social networks are weakening some of the conditions that have historically enabled the existence of national states democratic. I understand that it is a dramatic statement, and I do not expect anyone to believe it immediately, but considering that almost half of all potential voters received false news promoted by the Russians in Facebook is an argument that must be debated. Associate Professor of Philosophy, Director of Center for Professional and Applied Ethics, University of North Carolina-Charlotte How we create a shared reality Let's start with two concepts: the "imagined community" and the "bubble filter". ...
