Internet governance...but, and that...exactly what is it? Some of them might sound something about the domains, little news talking about it in the plan "IANA gives the management of the domains to ICANN" or something like that...Indeed, on September 30, IANA has finally given up the management of the DNS to ICANN, but that's not the only thing that happened on the Internet this year, let alone with its governance.
Let's put ourselves in context: in 2006, the UN Secretary General formally announced the creation of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) and yes, in our country one of the headquarters was established. The mission of this Forum is to revive the debate about the different aspects of the Internet that are currently up to date, raise awareness in society and gather in a common place all the agents involved in the different issues addressed.
So that you do not miss any of the big issues that mark the Internet today and mark it in the near future, I summarize the IGF Spain conference this year. They have highlighted aspects such as Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, the consequences of these on future employment, the Internet of Things, Fintech and its integration of the Blockchain, online advertising, ICT in education, Smart Cities, mobile, Cybersecurity, the applicable online regulation , and, above all, the common denominator to all of them, the data: your Privacy and Security.
big data and artificial intelligence
Of all this, the main conclusions and ideas that have been drawn from this edition have been the opportunities of Brexit for Spain in Fintech, the close operation of the Blockchain in our financial sector (in about 2 years). In educational matters, there has been much talk about Tele-teaching platforms and the figure of the digital tutor, to make the most of the new technologies that have already been made available to thousands of students in Spain, as well as parent training and teachers to maximize training and safety in the process, in addition to avoiding bad practices such as "Cyberbullying." As for the new labor market drawn by the next revolution that comes from the hand of Big Data and AI and the changes that are going to Produce in the labor market, with the creation of new profiles and digital skills.
data brokers
In general, there has been much talk about the data, and specifically those from IoT and Smart Cities, but above all the ownership, security, anonymization and regulation on them, as well as the possibilities of controlling which and how they are used our data and what benefits are obtained with them.We also talked about online advertising, bad practices in it and the white lists of ad-blockers, and related to the issue of data, due to the personalized advertising, through the Data Brokers, figure that will emerge soon as a new professional and should be regulated soon, especially in terms of its relationship with the user who owns the data.
Finally, aspects of internet cyberspace regulation were commented, that ecosystem in which there are still small "cities without law" that should not be allowed to protect our rights.
In short, friends, this discussion forum brought together all the stakeholders in the Internet government and served to put the focus on one of them, the most important, the users, and guarantee our rights and freedoms in this world which represents almost half of our lives, and is called the Internet.
Finally, I clarify that this has not been written by a bot , but you have no doubt that many of the news you read in your day to day are written by computer programs.
See you at the next Internet Governance Forum!
