Orange offers the best quality mobile network in Spain

Orange has positioned itself as one of the two operators that offer the best mobile network quality in the first half of 2016, together with Vodafone , offering the highest data rate. This is the main conclusion of a study prepared by the consulting firm RootMetrics Espana , which reveals the fall of Movistar from the top positions in the last six months.

The report, which analyzes the quality of the mobile network in six major Spanish cities by taking 98,977 samples , notes that Vodafone and Orange stand out in the category of mobile network speed and data throughput in almost all cities, two categories in which Movistar has lost weight and highlights the rapid growth of the orange operator.

In an interview with EFE to analyze the study, the general director of RootMetrics in Europe , Scott Stonham, points out that setback of Movistar-who led with Vodafone the previous edition of the report in February-as one of the most outstanding points.

Stonham has also explained the "outstanding polarization" that exists between Vodafone and Orange, "very strong in the data chapter", and Movistar, with "high scores in satisfying calls".

For his part, Yoigo "is still a step below the rest as a mobile network , although it is shortening distances", and stands out in cities like Bilbao and Malaga, where it provides the best services.

To evaluate the quality of the mobile network of the four operators, RootMetrics buys phones from different telephone companies and installs a mobile application that reproduces the usual use of a mobile.

With the information obtained, aspects such as the reliability of the calls or data throughput, and transforms results into scores from 0 to 100.

In this second edition of the report in Spain, Rootmetrics has analyzed for the first time the status of the Bilbao, Malaga and Zaragoza network, which are added to the cases already studied in Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, in the first edition.

In the Spanish capital, Vodafone and Orange stand out in network reliability; Orange in speed and data throughput; Movistar, Orange and Vodafone in text messages; and the three companies, together with Yoigo, as call services.

The fastest average download speed in Spain was recorded in Madrid-which was 44.6 megabytes per second (Mbps), compared to 27.7 Mbps six months ago-with the Vodafone company, due to that in this period the operator "has installed the advanced LTE network, which doubles the speeds," Stonham explains.

"Valencia is a very important market for Vodafone," says Stonham, where the company is a leader in all the categories analyzed, except in text messages, in which it shares first place with Orange.

In Bilbao, Vodafone is the best operator in general terms, and shares with Orange the leadership in data performance and with Yoigo in call reliability, while Orange monopolizes the download speed.

Movistar and Vodafone offer the best service in Malaga, although in speed and data performance Orange is ranked first.

Vodafone and Orange win in Zaragoza in the global classification and in speed and performance of the data, while in the other aspects studied they tie with Movistar.
